Description
The books of the New Testament don't come with date stamps. But understanding the chronology of events and the dating of letters is extremely helpful for any serious study of the New Testament, the life of Jesus, and the early church. Unfortunately, there hasn't been much scholarly work on these issues in the past few decades.
In his pioneering book Rethinking the Dates of the New Testament, Jonathan Bernier challenged previous assumptions and made a compelling case for earlier dates of composition for the New Testament books. This Handbook of New Testament Chronology is a companion to Bernier's earlier work, but it also stands alone. It gives a fresh and comprehensive presentation of the dates of people and events of the New Testament.
Bernier starts with fixed points known from history and with precise markers in the New Testament. He then examines the chronologies of John the Baptist and Jesus, Paul, and the broader church. Handbook of New Testament Chronology helps readers understand the order of events along with their most likely dates of occurrence. It includes helpful maps and charts to enhance understanding.
This book makes a perfect supplemental textbook for courses on the New Testament and a reference for any serious Bible student.
