Description
The ‘I am’ sayings of Jesus form the spine of the teaching of John‘s Gospel. The ‘I am’ part speaks of Christ’s person; the second part explains Christ’s work. Christ, the Bread of Life, removes the hunger caused by sin and brings the satisfaction of eternal life, the twin blessings of repentance and faith. Christ, the Light of the World, illumines the mind leading to true assurance and gives spiritual sight, born of effectual calling. Christ, the Door, bestows entry to God’s fold and enjoyment within God’s pasture. Christ, the Good Shepherd, grants saving protection and preserving perseverance. Christ, the Resurrection and the Life, both commences and continues the grace of salvation. Christ, the Way, the Truth and the Life, points the way to God, expounds the truth about God and epitomizes the life of God, for he is what he does. Christ, the True Vine, both cleanses in justification and consecrates through sanctification. Jesus Christ is truly the great ‘I AM’.
