When coronavirus and Covid-19 exploded into our lives in the middle of March 2020, it caught everyone off-guard. Its suddenness, virulence and lack of familiarity, released a tsunami of fear unlike anything seen in post-War Britain.
The virus may have been new, but fear is anything but.
Fear of something or other is everywhere, and the last twenty years or so, in tandem with the proliferation of mental health issues, has seen over 7600 different types of fear officially recognised as medical conditions. Ranging from super-serious and obvious to quirky, ridiculous, and absolutely bizarre, there’s even a “catch-all” fear if you like, it’s called Panophobia - the fear of everything!
