“We need good books on mission and this is one of the books we need. Tim Chester writes clearly and just as importantly grounds his reflections in a sound biblical knowledge and strong theological framework. However, he doesn’t stop there; Tim is also able to give an historical overview of the missions task and an account of the contemporary issues that we face.
Mission matters has a strong eye on overseas mission but most of the insights can be applied just as well to the mission on our doorstep. There are essentially four main sections - the theological/ biblical framework, historical overview, the purpose or goal of mission, and finally the challenges, especially in relation to the cultural barriers and boundaries that we face.
Tim is able to draw on some of the major thinkers in the world of missions, people like Paul Hiebert and Donald McGavran. His use of their insights is both accurate and helpful. One of those who commend the book says that it is ‘Easy-to-read, clear, practical and challenging’. That sums up my response to Mission Matters. Its a book you could give to any Christian to give them an encouraging overview of the issues that flow from the missionary task.”
