There are some outstanding ‘modern’ hymn writers out there and there is no doubt that Chris Tomlin is high up on that list. He has been referred to by Time magazine as ‘the most often sung artist anywhere’. This means that when new music appears from Tomlin people take note. When Holy Roar came out in 2018 I had a stack of CDs to review and therefore it got overlooked, however when the live album came through it reminded me to go back and listen to Holy Roar and I am very glad I did. Tomlin is consistently pointing us back to the worthiness of God and His love for us, while also drawing us into praise in a way that is accessible for everyone. Yet again, he delivers on the congregational singing with a church worship band style that we’ve come to love him for. The two standout tracks for me are “Praise Is The Highway” and “Is He Worthy” which includes a lyric from Romans 8:18-24, all worshipping about humanity and creation. It also references Revelation 5:114, declaring Jesus is the only one worthy to break the seals on the scrolls in heaven that unfold God’s plan at the end of this age. Overall there will be something on this album for all fans of Tomlin. I also think it would be a great album for a ‘newbie’ to dip their toe into. Another strong collection from a great worship leader.
